Our Story

The Spirit of International Volunteer HT

International Volunteer HT was born in 2021 under the shade of an ancient baobab tree in Arusha, Tanzania. Our founders — a Maasai wildlife guide and a community development specialist — shared a vision: to show the world Africa's true beauty while ensuring the people who call it home share in the prosperity.

They were tired of seeing mass tourism extract wealth from the continent without giving back. So they built a different model. One where guides are co-owners. Where every booking funds conservation. Where travelers leave not just with photographs, but with a genuine understanding of the land and its people.

Today, International Volunteer HT operates across 12 African countries with a team of over 120 local experts, 18 conservation programs, and a community impact fund that has disbursed over $2.4 million into local projects — all from our headquarters in Arusha, at the foot of Mount Kilimanjaro.

Community First

30% of every booking goes directly to local community development — schools, clinics, clean water, and livelihoods.

Conservation by Default

We only partner with lodges and operators that meet our 47-point ecological standards. No exceptions.

Radical Transparency

We publish our annual impact report publicly — how much was raised, where it went, and what it built.

Our Mission

To connect curious travellers with authentic African experiences that generate measurable benefit for wildlife, ecosystems, and the communities that steward them.

Our Vision

An Africa where the economic value of a living lion or an intact forest far exceeds any alternative — because tourism and conservation make it so.

Our Promise

Every International Volunteer Home Tz traveller departs knowing their trip funded something real. We provide proof — names, coordinates, and outcomes — not vague pledges.

Measured Impact

5 Years. Real Numbers.

Impact that can be verified, measured, and built upon. These figures are audited annually by an independent third party.
